The price of international domain names (.com, .net and .org) is cheaper and cheaper. You may also want to register one for yourself. Here are something which you must know beforehand:

The price varies much. The price can be as high as US$35/year! (example: www.register.com) On the other hand, a few registrars do the same thing for less than US$10/year. So make sure you don't go with those expensive companies. Don't ask me for cheap registrars, it's your job to find one.
This is equivalent to the owner of the domain name and is even more important than the price. You must make sure that the domain name is registered under your name, but not the name of the registrar. Otherwise you may not be able to transfer your domain to another cheaper company in the future because you are "not" the owner!
Besides doing the registration for you, the price of certain companies includes some additional services, such as domain parking, email forwarding, etc. You'd better balance the service and the price.
